Together in God’s Word 02/17/11 • Reflections from the One Year Bible / by Stanley A. Parker
Mark 2:13 (ESV)
[13] He went out again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them.
I was reflecting this morning on how I see myself in the story known as life.
There are a few characters that are in the forefront like Peter and the rest of the 12.
Then there are several who make an often times nameless, momentary appearance like the blind men or the widow and son or the woman with the hemorrhage.
And then their is everyone else… the crowd as this verse refers to them.
As I think about it, I typically see myself as one of the 12.
And yet there were only twelve! So it is likely I wouldn’t be.
Okay, how about one that stepped for a moment out of the crowd for a unique encounter with Jesus?
A few more, but still not much room in that group.
Most likely I would be and am one of the crowd?
Honestly… That thought didn’t feel very good at first.
Here’s my conclusion however.
IT IS NOT ABOUT ME!!!!
Nor is it about Peter!
Nor is about the others making appearances. (could that be why their names usually aren’t given?)
it is about Jesus!
History is HIS-story!
Whether I am part of the crowd being powerfully taught and miraculously fed
or part of the occasional being supernaturally healed
or part of the twelve uniquely called
we are all merely servants
of HIS majesty!
Serving differently equal for HIS glory!

Thank you for reminding me of the great honor and joy of being in the crowd…yes, about HIM…
