Together in God’s Word 02/21/11 • Reflections from the One Year Bible / by Stanley A. Parker
Mark 5:27-29 (ESV)
[27] She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. [28] For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” [29] And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.
This story always messes with me!
It is one of the passages that keeps my nice neat boxes from being formed.
This woman received something from Jesus
apart from His conscious willing it!
No request was made.
And so no request was granted.
The point of this story isn’t the power of prayer.
That would fit my box quite nicely.
And so what is the point of the story?
From Jesus’ words directly comes the answer!
Mark 5:34a (ESV)
[34] And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; …”
The point of the story is the power of FAITH!
Faith itself has the ability to effect!!!!
Now it is not faith APART from God… it WAS to Jesus that her faith was applied.
If she had gone up to an olive tree with the same faith, I am just not thinking she would have been healed!
Ultimately, it is still about the power of God!
Her faith had power in that it accessed the power of God!
